All Head Agenda therapists must have completed degree level training, built many hours of clinical experience and be a Registered Member of a leading professional organisation. We are selective about the therapists that work with Head Agenda clients.
This means, at Head Agenda we are prepared and able to provide the support and guidance to help you to deal with many situations or issues you are facing.
Anxiety
Anxiety can manifest in many ways, be it panic attacks, phobias, ruminating thoughts or worries, obsessive overthinking, dwelling on the past and fearing the future. Anxiety can present itself in different ways, but the experienced team at Head Agenda will be able to provide the most effective therapy on a case-by-case basis. Established treatments for anxiety are typically cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or psychotherapy. We offer a combined approach if this is deemed to be appropriate.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is sometimes described as ‘solution focused’ and works with a single issue. It employs both cognitive (thinking) and behaviour (adapting actions in response to thoughts) therapy. By tackling your perception of an anxiety-inducing situation, we can make steps towards overcoming the negative thoughts and consciously behave differently.
Often the root of our struggles is in the past. A Psychotherapeutic approach recognises the significance of our early life and developmental experiences. It is possible to explore how historic patterns, habits and behaviours, (that used to serve us well), might not help us in present day living. Change is possible and new habits can be practiced and implemented.
Relationship difficulties
There is no such thing as a perfect relationship.
During the COVID lock downs, relationships may have been put under strain as a consequence of spending a lot of time with someone day in and day out. Niggles that are left to fester can develop over time and become problematic frustrations and irritation or worse. Alternatively, difficulties can be addressed in a welcoming and non-judgemental environment with a trained couples counsellor. We like to describe relationship counselling as a bridge between your partners world and yours. In fact the client is the relationship. We can explore how it came about, the Velcro that is present and the dynamics that exist, both positive and unhelpful.
Over time, we can work with the strengths and struggles within the relationship and support you both to develop healthier ways of relating to each other.
Sometimes, we work with couples who decide that they don’t wish to stay together and it is possible to navigate and achieve a good separation.
Depression
While depression affects people in different ways, it can often be likened to feeling as though you’re living underneath a dark shadow that pervades your daily life. Whilst everyone is accustomed to periods of feeling down or sad, at the point when it’s impacting your daily life it’s worth seeking help.
One symptom that is often a first identifier of depression is a general lack of enthusiasm or interest in things that once provided you with joy or excitement – be it a hobby, activity or even your relationship. After working to learn as much about your depression as possible, including any underlying reasons behind it – the experienced Head Agenda team will be at hand to help you move forward, feeling better, more hopeful and that life is worth living.
Anger Management
We can all get annoyed by unwelcome events or other people. When this gets to the point where your rage is impacting on your life and the lives of people around you, help may be advisable. In some people anger presents as physical aggression, mental frustration or even a more physiological response such as sweating or a racing heartbeat. Not only can these reactions upset or endanger the people around you, they also have negative effects on you.
We can help you understand what lies behind your powerful emotions, notice triggers and work towards a more measured response in future. By doing this, you can better understand the different causes for this overactive defence mechanism and slowly work to limit the impact that these triggers have on your state of mind.
Trauma
Whether you have survived a single life-threatening event or multiple experiences (complex trauma), there are different triggers for trauma. Manifesting as feelings of fear, anxiety, helplessness, flashbacks or nightmares, it can be difficult to recognise that you might be suffering from post-traumatic stress.
Therapists at Head Agenda are qualified in psychotherapy and experienced working with the impact of trauma. We will work closely with you over time to reduce these feelings and associations. Working with the consequences of trauma(s) requires time, patience and great care. Within the therapeutic relationship a hopeful outlook is possible,
